Medical Malls would offer the widest array
of medical services and provide a
convenient, one stop environment
designed for the healthcare consumers it
serves.
It would also serve as an effective platform
for interaction and commerce between
professionals in the healthcare arena -
doctors, healthcare providers, medical
equipment / device manufacturers,
pharmaceutical companies, medical
insurance providers, etc.
The medical malls would also provide an
ideal setting for healthcare conferences
and exhibitions. |

"A premier multispeciality hospital had an
average of 25 patients using its preventive
healthcare services every day. Given the drain
on hospital resources and space limitation the
hospital decided to relocate the health check-up
department. This freed up more space for the
acute care facilities for which there was a huge
demande. Within a short duration, the numbers
increased to 50 because of the better
ambience, easier accessibility & dedicated
equipment allocation. A win-win situation for
both consumer and provider."

The rapid development of retail is also spurring consumption levels. There were only
three shopping malls in india the year 2001 but by the year 2008 this figure is
expected to grow to 328 shopping malls. As per Technopak analysis, almost
87million sq. ft. of mall space shall develop by 2007. Favorable demographics,
enhanced infrastructure development and increasing consumer demand all serve
to fuel this trend.
As Medical clinics in retail malls mature and grow, we also envisage the emergence
of Medical Malls which offer the widest possible range of healthcare services on an
ambulatory setting .This is seen as natural and logical progression, which would
capitalize on the observed advantages and learning curve of the retail medical
model while simultaneously addressing its limiting factors.

This would evolve from a retail medical clinic setting (outlined in chapter 1) to a pure
medical mall per se. The pace of transition would depend on the success of the retail
medical malls and the growth of the healthcare market.
